Dahil sa pagiging bantog, binansagan siyang "Hari ng Rap" (King of Rap). Noong 6 Marso 2009, namatay si Francis sa sakit na lukemya, isang uri ng kanser. Si Francis ay anak ng mga artista ding sina Tita Duran at Pancho Magalona. Anak niya si Maxene Magalona na isa ring artista. Anak din niya si Saab Magalona, Frank Magalona, Elmo Magalona at Arkin Magalona na ngayon ay nasa industriya na rin nang showbiz.
